Turbot is a fish that is not targeted and is usually captured by accident whilst fishing for other species. Most times when these fish are caught, it is around ‘slack water’ when the anchored vessel moves away from the wreck and the baits are in the scour of the wreck.
The incidence of catching these species over the years has decreased due to netting of the wrecks. If you are fortunate to capture one they are usually as big as dust bin lids.
There are certain areas around the UK where these are targeted. One such place is the Skerries Bank where commercial vessels are banned
